This initiative have been set-up by medical doctors from Cameroon who have been touched by the burden of rheumatic heart disease (RHD) in their country and across Africa.

“Everything started few years ago during a voluntary summer posting in shisong cardiac center during a surgical campaign while i was still in my clinical years in medical school. Many patients on the surgical list had the same diagnosis: rheumatic heart disease. I wondered why many people undertaking heart surgery were suffering from the same disease. I then did research on the topic and then I realized that it was secondary to untreated sore throat during childhood. The heartbreaking discovery was not only the cause of the disease, but the fact that it could be prevented. I then decided to advocate for this disease; that was the beginning of CaRHD-In”
